South Bay Catalina Yacht Club

WELCOME TO THE SOUTH BAY CATALINA YACHT CLUB

This is the new web site of our club. Our club, The South Bay Catalina Yacht Club or SBCYC has been in existence since 1984. We are a club dedicated to our Catalina sail boats, but mostly we are dedicated to sailing and enjoying the experience with other people with the same passion.

SBCYC is a low pressure, casual and friendly organization. We have members of all ages and sailing abilities. The club offers an opportunity to exchange information and ideas with other people that own Catalinas. Our emphasis is Good Boats, Good Times, with Good Friends.

Membership in the South Bay Cataina Yacht Club is open to all owners of Catalina, Capri and Morgan sailboats and their Crew. This is an all volunteer, non-profit organization. Dues are $100.00 annually.

We sail on the Great South Bay on the south shore of Long Island. We are a small club, membership is now at about 20 boats. The boats currently in the club range from 22ft to 36ft.

The club's main activities focus around sailing and socializing. This includes cruising in the form of week end raft ups at various marinas and anchorages on the bay. There is also a fairly extensive racing schedule consisting of a Spring, Summer and Fall series. The racing is friendly and intimate. We get between 4 and 7 boats on Monday evenings. There are also special race events on the weekends for those who qualify. We also host special racing events for the non racer where having fun is stressed over winning.

In addition to the racing and raft-ups we have deep water cruises. This year there will be a cruise to Block Island. Currently we have three boats committed with several others expressing an interest. We are also planning a weekend cruise to New York Harbor and staying over in Sandy Hook.

The club hosts many social events during the entire year. There is the Commodore's Party and Barbecue, Hulliday Party, and Installation Dinner Dance to name a few.

The club has monthly meetings where in addition to discussing club business, there will be guest speakers, who will provide information about our boats and sailing in general.

Recently we became an "All Boat Association" in Mainsheet. Mainsheet is a magazine/website for the National Catalina Association. Visit their site at
http://www.mainsheet.net

In the future I hope to see this web site grow. We will be displaying pictures of our boats at the raft-ups and cruising events. There will be a section on technical information regarding our boats and equipment. Perhaps there can be some kind of question and answer thing. At some point we may include a classified section for the sale of boats and boat equipment. As time goes on this page will be further developed according to the interest it develops.

We welcome new members. In fact we are now offering New Members a 50% discount on the dues. That means that for the first year of membership the dues will cost only $50 instead of the usual $100. Those interested in joining the South Bay Catalina Yacht Club, can contact Mark at sailexpress@juno.com
